‘SINGING IN THE RAIN’
Saturday Matinee, 3rd January 2026, 2.30 pm
Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester
SOLD OUT
Cost, including transport, £56.00
Coach departs Knutsford bus station at 1.00 pm
‘Singing in the Rain’ is the Royal Exchange Christmas production for 2025/6, many of which we have enjoyed over the years. As usual for the Christmas show, I have booked a Saturday matinee performance for the first week in January, when you might be less busy!
The Exchange describes this as ‘A Timeless Masterpiece – a fantastic, tapdancing extravaganza!’ It tells the story of Hollywood as the radical move is made from silent movies to the ‘talkies’. It is directed by Raz Shaw, who, amongst many other shows, directed ‘The Producers’ a few years ago, which we much enjoyed. Packed with iconic songs such as Make ‘em laugh; Good Morning, Moses and, of course, the title song ‘Singing in the Rain’, it should prove an enjoyable afternoon.
‘TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD’
Thursday, 22nd January 2026, 7.30 pm
Cost, including transport, £52.00
SOLD OUT
The Lowry Theatre, Salford
Coach departs Knutsford bus station at 6.00 pm
This riveting, award-winning adaptation of the much loved classic story, ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’, by Harper Lee became a sell out sensation in both Broadway and the West End. Now this thrilling court room drama tours UK for the first time.
Set in 1930’s Alabama, exploring themes of racial injustice, and childhood innocence, the story follows Atticus Finch, a lawyer defending a black man accused of raping a white woman. Atticus encourages kindness and empathy in his children, as he resolves to uncover the truth in a town that seems determined to hide it.
With five star reviews from the major papers, it is described as ‘powerful’ ‘uplifting’ and ‘deeply moving’.
‘DANCING AT LUGHNASA’
By Brian Friel
Thursday, 23rd October, 7.30pm
Cost, including transport, £44.00
SOLD OUT
Royal Exchange, Manchester
Coach departs from Knutsford Bus Station at 6.00 pm prompt
It seems a long time since we last went to the Royal Exchange, so I hope this will be a welcome return!
The Irish playwright, Brian Friel, has been called one of our greatest twentieth century English language dramatists. ‘Dancing at Lughnasa’, one of his later plays, was first produced at the National Theatre in 1990 and has subsequently been revived several times at both the National and on Broadway, gaining many awards. It was also filmed with Meryl Streep and Michael Gambon in 1998.
It is set in County Donegal in 1936, during the summer harvest Festival of Lughnasa, and tells the story of the five Mundy sisters, battling poverty to raise their younger brother. The sisters fight each other, love each other, dance, yearn and struggle to survive the changing economic conditions. Powerful and Moving.
