‘THE CAR MAN’
A Matthew Bourne ballet, based on Bizet’s ‘Carmen’
The Lowry Theatre, Salford
Thursday, June 25th, 7.30pm
Cost, including transport, £60.00
Coach departs from Knutsford Bus Station at 6pm prompt.
This is one of Matthew Bourne’s most popular ballets. A dance thriller like no other. It was first performed in 2000 at the Old Vic in London, followed by countrywide tours, including Manchester. The musical score is taken from Bizet’s well known opera Carmen, so much of it will be familiar, but it has a completely different story.
It is set in the 1950’s in a small Italian-American community in the USA. Bizet’s 19th century Spanish cigarette factory becomes a greasy garage where the dreams of a small town are shattered by the arrival of a handsome and enigmatic stranger.
It is ‘full of dramatic juice’ and ‘sizzling and fizzing with lust’! (The Telegraph).
‘Gripping, gasp making, edge of your seat stuff’ (Daily Mail).
For this performance half of my fifty tickets are in the centre stalls and half in the centre circle. Prices are the same for each. Only tickets for the Stalls remain on our On-line Tickets page.
Alternatively. You can send a cheque, made out to Knutsford u3a, together with a completed booking form, to Margaret Hinde, 1 Warford Hall Drive, Alderley Edge, SK9 7TR. Tel. 01565 872643.

Join us for a thrilling, high energy journey around the world in eighty days!
This delightful production was first seen ten years ago at the New Vic. since when it has transferred to the Royal Exchange in Manchester, to the West End, and played to audiences halfway round the world including Broadway. It has become one of the New Vic’s biggest and best loved hits and they are now bringing it back to celebrate the theatre’s 40th anniversary year.
8 actors, including 4 from the original production, tell the story of Phileas Fogg, his trusty valet Passepartout, and their race around the world. They take on 109 characters, 6 trains, 5 boats, 2 dances, one storm, a circus act and an elephant! I remember a truly joyous evening when we saw it ten years ago.
‘A beautifully executed, preposterous romp’ – The Independent
‘Highly entertaining, a riotous romp’ – The Times

‘Private Lives’ has been entertaining audiences since the 1930’s and was a spectacular success at the National Theatre last year. Timeless comedy which, in the hands of the Exchange Theatre, should not disappoint.
It is a witty exploration of love, passion and turbulent relationships between a divorced couple who accidentally meet in ‘very flat’ Norfolk, while each is honeymooning with their new, more conventional , partners.
Sparkling dialogue and art deco glamour – what’s not to like?
