Resource Centre

The Resource Centre in the National Office in Bromley has a collection of non-book material available to all u3a groups to borrow free of charge except for the cost of return postage. There are slides, videos, cassettes, dvds and cd roms available in a wide range of subjects. Individual subject lists are available from the Resource Centre on request and the whole catalogue is available here on the web site with an ordering facility. Please note that you have to first register with the Resource Centre as a user either by telephoning between 9.30am and 3.30pm on either a TUESDAY or a THURSDAY, or online by going into the resource centre catalogue and clicking on ‘sign up’. Bookings can be made 9 months ahead and loans are for an initial period of 3 weeks. Over 75% of u3a’s are making regular use of the Resource Centre to support and enhance their study groups and if you would like more detail about a particular item do not hesitate to contact the Resource Centre by email or telephone 0208 315 0199

u3a Online Learning Events

The national website lists a wide selection of Learning Events that are available to members.  Many are being delivered via the Zoom video conferencing/webinar platform and there are some ‘How to Guides’ and ‘Online Tutorials’ to help you use Zoom if you are not familiar with this tool.

North West Summer School 2020

This will be held again at Newton Rigg Agricultural College, near Penrith. Please note, this year it will run from Monday 24th August to Thursday 27th August, to avoid travel close to the bank holiday weekend.

The nine courses on offer are:

  • Archaeology: ‘Exploring the archaeology of the borders’
  • Art: ‘Memories of Childhood’
  • Art Appreciation: ‘Iconic Artists’
  • Geology: ‘Lakeland Ice and Fire’
  • History: ‘Wars of the Roses, England from 1450 to 1485’
  • Music Appreciation: ‘Making Friends with the Great Composers’
  • Philosophy: ‘Literature: North-North-West’
  • Ukulele: ‘A course at intermediary level’
  • Science: ‘Famous scientists and their stories’
