Members’ Meeting – 12th February
Our next Members’ meeting will be on Thursday 12th February at 2:15pm at the Knutsford Methodist Church. Please aim to be seated by 2pm so that we can make a prompt start at 2:15pm.
Joanna M Williams, historian and biographer, returns to give her talk “Manchester’s Radical Mayor – Abel Haywood”
Known in his day as the man who built the Town Hall, Abel was also a leading publisher who entertained royalty at his home and twice became Mayor of Manchester. A campaigner for votes for all and social reform, Heywood attempted to enter Parliament twice, but his working-class origins and radical ideas proved an insurmountable obstacle.

There will be two further “Hidden Talents” talks this winter. These are talks given by members of our u3a on any topic. The line-up for the next two months is as follows:-
Thursday 26th February: Howard Thorp will give his talk “Growing up in Manchester in the 1960s and 70s”.
Thursday 26th March: We have a double billing, with Gerrard McCreesh reciting his poetry followed by Zoe Langmead telling us about the journey of a donated tin of baked beans.
